Rorie
I met Caity as a client 3 years ago, when she booked me to photograph the birth of her son Luka. Caity and her husband Jayden are from Hamilton, but were birthing in Auckland as their son had a severe congenital heart defect and needed surgery in Auckland’s Starship Hospital after birth in the hopes of him surviving.
Three years and a full circle later, I am back in Auckland hospital with Caity and Jayden, photographing the birth of their second boy. This time we are in Auckland hospital, as Luka has just had another heart surgery and they are staying in the Ronald MacDonald housing while he recovers.
When Caity messaged me at 3:30am saying “I’m 6cm, moving to delivery suite, baby’s head was right there” I knew (being a second time mum) that I had to jump straight out of bed and head straight to Auckland Hospital. And lucky I did, as baby Rorie was born exactly 10 minutes after I walked in the room!
It was so lovely seeing Caity and Jayden get their precious golden hour after birth time with Rorie this time around, as they weren’t able to get this with Luka when he was born.
We iconically ordered Macca’s to our room for breakfast, watched Rorie have his newborn checks done, and had more cuddles with mum and dad while we waited for Luka to wake up and wander over from Ronald MacDonald to meet his baby brother.
Luka and his two Grandmothers made their way in, and Luka finally got to meet his baby brother he had been waiting for. Such a precious moment to witness.
